Warm ups for cycling performance.

A bit of a self-indulgent post but as I’ve recently received my certificate for my MSc in Strength and Conditioning, I thought I’d share the major study that was part of the final assessment as it directly relates to cycling performance for most amateur athletes that race circuit/criterium races. After a 2-year delay, re-writing the major study protocol 4 times and limited access to facilities I developed a protocol to look into postactivation potentiation and if this phenomenon can help improve repeat sprint cycling performance. Postactivation potentiation is defined as the acute improvement of muscle function after a voluntary contraction. So, in other words competing a maximal lift, jump or sprint can increase the performance of the next maximal lift, jump or sprint. I wanted to see if this effect could be prolonged and how long it could last.

Part of that assessment was a mock-up journal article, this has not been published or peer reviewed but I think it’s worth sharing and could help people identify a small performance improvement and see if it works for you.

You can always skip to the end if you just want the results 😉

Enjoy.
